14K Solid Gold Rings for Men

Solid gold means the metal goes all the way through: 14K is 58.5 per cent gold alloyed with harder metals, so the colour cannot wear off an edge the way a surface layer can. It is also stiffer than pure gold, which is why a 14K band keeps a sharp corner on a square design.

The shapes stay deliberately plain. Basic, square, minimal and classic settings hold a single stone each: black onyx, red agate, tiger eye, mother of pearl, star stone, and blue or red zircon. The gold frame does little more than hold the stone and set its colour off.

How solid gold wears compared with silver

Gold does not tarnish, so there is no darkening to polish away. What it does instead is collect fine scratches that settle into a soft sheen after a year or two of daily wear. A jeweller can bring back the original polish whenever that matters.
