Men's Silver Chains with Hand-Engraved Links

Some of these necklaces are the chain itself. The hand-engraved pieces, including a 7 mm width, have each link cut by hand before assembly, so light breaks unevenly along the length instead of running as one clean reflection. Worn open at the collar, a chain like that reads as jewellery on its own.

The rest hang a symbol from a lighter chain. Norse motifs are well represented, with a vegvisir compass and Viking knotwork, next to a north star, an anchor set with black zircon, a lion head and a bee. All of it is 925 sterling silver.

What hand engraving does to a chain

Cut lines are sharper than moulded ones, and because a graver removes metal rather than pressing it, the pattern does not blur under polishing. The cuts do hold more of the natural darkening silver develops, which most people leave in place because it makes the pattern easier to read.
